Flower bulbs in the garden
Flower bulbs are perfect for any garden. It looks beautiful and colorful and you also help the bees and butterflies with it. The first step is of course to choose the many types of flower bulbs that you want in your garden. And then the second step, planting. What's the best way to do that? We will help you with that!
The difference between summer and spring flower bulbs
To start with, you need to know what type of bulb or tuber you are dealing with. Different types of flower bulbs have different requirements. The spring flower bulbs can be planted from October to approximately November. It is important that they are in the ground before the first night frost, because the spring flower bulbs need the cold to develop the flower. With summer flower bulbs it is the other way around, they can be planted after ice skating (May 15), when there is no longer a chance of night frost. These flower bulbs are not winter hardy and can freeze during severe frost. By spring flower bulbs we mean all varieties that bloom in the spring, such as tulips, daffodils or alliums. The summer flower bulbs bloom in the summer, such as dahlias, gladiolus or begonias.
Planting
So how do you plant the flower bulbs now? We will explain this to you in four steps.
Step 1: First of all, it is important that you have the right materials at home to plant the flower bulbs. You don't need much for this, a scoop is enough.

Choose the place where you want to plant the flower bulbs. Take into account the wishes of the type of flower bulb you have chosen. Does this species need a lot of sun? Or would it rather be in a sheltered spot? It is important that you always remove the flower bulbs from the bag after purchase/delivery, so that air can enter. This is certainly important if you are not going to plant the flower bulbs right away.
Step 3: After you have chosen the spot, prepare the soil. You can choose to fertilize the soil additionally, but this is not always necessary. Make sure that the soil is loose so that the flower bulbs can root well. You do this by loosening the soil. The soil must also be well-drained, otherwise the bulbs may rot.
Step 4: Then the time has come, the flower bulbs can be planted. A general rule for planting most bulbs is 2x the width of the bulb for planting distance, and 2x the height of the bulb for planting depth. If a tulip bulb is 4cm high, plant it 8cm deep. After planting, press the soil a little and give it a little water so that rooting can begin. If the soil is already moist, you do not need to provide additional water. Now we have to wait until the first leaves appear.

Water after planting
After you plant the flower bulbs, they do not need much water until flowering. It is best to give the flower bulbs a small sip of water once or twice a week. Make sure that the soil does not get too wet, otherwise the flower bulbs will rot. If the soil is already moist, you do not need to provide additional water.
