The color of the flower of the Golden Oxford tulip bulb is yellow with a very fine red edge along the petals. The heart is yellow, the stamens are black. It is a strong tulip that blooms for a long time. The Golden Oxford tulip bulb can come back for years. The large flower stands on a sturdy stem of about 55 cm. It is an excellent cut flower

The Golden Oxford tulip bulbs belong to the Darwin hybrid group. The Darwin tulips are formally all cultivars of the Tulipa Gesneria. The wild ancestor is unknown. This was crossed in the 1940s with the Tulipa fosteriana 'Madame Lefeber'. A different species and so now we are dealing with a hybrid that has come to be called "Darwin hybrid" to avoid a lot of confusion . So Darwin tulip is one of the parents of the Darwin hybrid tulip and not the same.

Of all those varieties, the "Darwin Tulips" are popularly called "Common Tulips". But it is precisely those ordinary tulips that have an exceptional beauty due to their simple, perfectly austere shape. They should not be missing in any Dutch spring garden - swaying on their slender high stems. The Darwin hybrids have extra large flowers. The stems are strong and sturdy. Ideal cut flowers!

The best time to plant Golden Oxford tulip bulbs is the months of October and November. The tulip bulb needs some time to form roots before the first frost comes. If you plant the tulip bulbs before October, there is a risk of frost damage because the tulips will emerge too early in the spring. The planting depth is 3 times the height of the bulb. In order to bloom in the spring, a tulip bulb needs the indispensable winter. So a cold period, which should last at least 9 weeks with a temperature below 10 degrees Celsius. Tulip bulbs are best planted in well-loosened, not too wet soil. If they are too wet, the bulbs will rot and there will be no flower. They do well in sun or partial shade. Plant tall tulips in a place where they are protected from strong winds to prevent blowing over. For planting instructions: You can plant the tulip bulbs in groups or scatter the tulip bulbs and plant them where they fell. The latter gives a natural effect.

The Golden Oxford tulip bulbs are not suitable for planting a pot or container.
