Those beautiful crocus flowers through the grass, or the snowdrops that show their flower everywhere at the beginning of each year. The flower beds seem to be getting bigger and bigger, and that's right! These are namely naturalized flower bulbs.
What are naturalizing bulbs?
Naturalising flower bulbs are flower bulbs that spread naturally through the garden. They are bulbs that can multiply without having to dig them out of the ground. Most naturalising flower bulbs flower early. This makes them ideal for planting between the grass. Before the grass is mowed, the flowers have already finished blooming.
Which species naturalize best?
The species that naturalize best are species such as snowdrops, crocuses , bluebells , chionodoxa , and anemones . Most daffodil species can also naturalize, but not as quickly as the above species. Tulip bulbs do not naturalize, but botanical tulips can do this reasonably well.
Planting and caring for naturalising flower bulbs
The naturalised bulbs we mentioned above can all be planted in October. Make sure you plant the flower bulbs in a well-drained spot in the garden. Is there a puddle left after it has rained? Then this spot is not suitable for flower bulbs. When planting, pay attention to the wishes of the flower bulbs; do they want to be in the sun? Or do they prefer a spot in the (semi)shade? Early flowering naturalised bulbs are very suitable for planting between grass. The flowers have finished blooming before the grass is mowed. This way you have a beautiful lawn full of flowers and you can enjoy it to the fullest. Naturalised flower bulbs do not require any special attention. In terms of care, you do not have to do anything, because everything happens automatically after planting. So nice and easy!
