Features of the Queensland tulip bulb:
The flower of the Queensland tulip bulb is pink with a white serrated edge. It's a full flower. The heart of the flower is white with a white pistil and yellow stamens. The flower stands on a sturdy, light-colored stem of about 20 cm. Due to this low height, they are also suitable for planting in a pot.
The Queensland tulip belongs to the Crispa group of tulip bulbs.
Crispa tulip bulbs (fringed tulips) originate from Central Asia. The fringed shape originated spontaneously in 1930. With this type of tulip bulbs, people continued to cross, so that several colors of fringed tulips are now available. They are late flowering tulips, they bloom in May and are about 50 cm high.
The best planting time for Queensland tulip bulbs are the months of October and November. The tulip bulb needs some time to form roots before the first frost comes. If you plant the tulip bulbs before October, there is a risk of frost damage because the tulips will then emerge too early in the spring. The planting depth is 3 x the height of the bulb. In order to bloom in the spring, a tulip bulb needs the indispensable winter. A cold period, which should last at least 9 weeks, preferably with a temperature below 10 degrees Celsius. Tulip bulbs are best planted in well-loosened, not too wet, soil. If they are too wet, the bulbs will rot and there will be no flower. They do well in a spot in the sun or partial shade. Plant tall tulips in a place where they are protected from strong winds to prevent them from blowing over. You can plant the tulip bulbs in groups or scatter the tulip bulbs and plant them where they fell. The latter gives a natural effect.
The Queensland tulip bulbs also do well in a pot or container. One of the most important rules is: ensure good drainage because tulip bulbs cannot withstand too much moisture. After planting, you can bury the pots and cover them with a layer of straw to protect them from freezing. As soon as the tulips come above the ground, the pot can be removed from the ground and placed at its destination.
