The Dutch name for Chionodoxa is Glory of the Snow. Chionodoxa comes from the Greek word chion meaning 'snow' and doxa meaning 'glory'. The popular name “glory of snow” is thus a literal translation of the botanical name. The Chionodoxa originates from Turkey and the island of Crete.

Chionodoxa is a cheerful bulbous plant. It is suitable for naturalising in the grass, in a border, or under deciduous shrubs, trees and hedges. They self-seed easily and withstand a dry spring or hot summer just fine. Chionodoxa flowers in March and grows to a height of about 10 to 20 cm. They like sun or partial shade. They also do well in the rock garden and in pots or containers. What applies to almost all bulbous plants, also applies to Chionodoxa. They don't like wet feet. Therefore, plant the bulbs in well-drained soil. They are very hardy. Plant the bulbs about 5 cm deep and 5 cm apart.
