Features of the El Nino tulip bulb:

The color of the flower of the El Nino tulip bulb is very special. The main color is yellow/orange with a vertical red band and red stripes in the wide yellow/orange border. No flower is the same. The heart is yellow with a yellow pistil and yellow stamens. This flower is a real eye-catcher in the garden. The large flower stands on a light-colored stem of about 60 cm. Due to this height, it is somewhat sensitive to wind. It is an excellent cut flower.

The El Nino tulip bulb belongs to the group “Only late tulips”. The group includes the tulips better known as Darwin, Broeiers and Cottage tulips. These old-fashioned names are no longer used. Combining these groups resulted in the group of single-flowered late tulips. The group contains a wide variety of flower shapes, although Viridiflora tulips and Fringed (or Crispa) tulips are placed in a different group. The only late tulips and the Darwin varieties are the largest tulips in the entire range. Only late tulips come in almost all colors, including a few unusual varieties. Single-flowered late tulips are first class cut flowers.

The tulip season always ends with a splash with these late-blooming tulips. The elegant flowers on long stems bloom from early May. This group has a longer flowering time than most other tulips.

The best planting time for El Nino tulip bulbs are the months of October and November. The tulip bulb needs some time to form roots before the first frost comes. If you plant the tulip bulbs before October, there is a risk of frost damage because the tulips will emerge too early in the spring. The planting depth is 3 times the height of the bulb. In order to bloom in the spring, a tulip bulb needs the indispensable winter. So a cold period, which should last at least 9 weeks with a temperature below 10 degrees Celsius. Tulip bulbs are best planted in well-loosened, not too wet soil. If they are too wet, the bulbs will rot and there will be no flower. They do well in sun or partial shade. Plant tall tulips in a place where they are protected from strong winds to prevent blowing over. You can plant the tulip bulbs in groups or scatter the tulip bulbs and plant them where they fell. The latter gives a natural effect.

The El Nino tulip bulbs are not suitable for planting a pot or container.
